BuckleDown Brewing Head Brewer Ike Orcutt Talks Belt & Suspenders

BuckleDown head brewer Ike Orcutt

We spoke with the BuckleDown Brewing head brewer Ike Orcutt about Belt & Suspenders.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
I came up with this recipe along with my fellow brew team lead Mike Myers.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
We love the flavor of this beer especially. It has a very bright, fruity hop character, with a touch of pinecone on the finish.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
When co-founder Sean first started mixing up batches of homebrew in his design shop, the brew days began at 4:30pm. Coincidentally, so did the slow walk to dinner for the old man in the building next door. We'd watch him shuffle into the kitchen every day. Same time. Same clothes. Same walk. Maybe he was just extra-careful. Maybe he liked the feel. Maybe he just had heavy pants… Doesn't matter. He was a part of our brew day, and he always wore a belt & suspenders.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
Yes. This has been our flagship beer since the day we opened.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Fruit-forward, crisp and intensely hoppy.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Fish tacos.
