East Brother Beer Co. in Richmond, California has announced the release of a seasonal brew called Belgian Tripel. Full details are below.
In a world that sometimes feels upside down, we’re finding comfort in honoring traditions while brewing great beer; grateful everyday for being in Richmond CA, and for our community of supporters. Tomorrow, East Brother Beer Company will release its seasonal Belgian Tripel, pulling from a tradition that began centuries ago in the Belgian abbeys.
So what exactly is a tripel? The short answer is a non-precise measurement of the alcohol content in this style of beer. Originally popularized by the Trappist monastery at Westmalle, the name tripel was typically used for the strongest beer in the cellar. Barrels were marked with Xs to signify strength, so three Xs designated the abbey’s tripel, or stronger alcohol content ale.
Honoring tradition, we brew an authentic Belgian Tripel at 8.6 ABV, using nearby Admiral Maltings' Admiral Pilsner malt, Clipper Oats, and Belgian Candi Sugar; a hops profile of English Kent Goldings and Styrian Aurora, plus Abbey Ale yeast.
East Brother Beer Co’s take on this classic ale is a pale straw beauty with a bright white foam crown, resulting in characteristic Belgian lace on the glass as it fades. A refreshingly drinkable ale with subtle notes of banana, honeysuckle, and just the right amount of clove and spice. Our Belgian Tripel pairs well with time-honored traditions like Thanksgiving turkey and trimmings; its rounded sweet malt and spicy fruit flavor complement everything from Brussels sprouts to apple pie.
Pro tip: We recommend letting this tallboy sit out for a few minutes if you’re just pulling it out of the refrigerator. Best served at around 50ºF for optimal enjoyment of aroma and flavor. Even better, pour this ale into a goblet.
