Mother Earth Brew Co. Director of Brewing Operations Talks NITRO Cali' Creamin

We spoke with Mother Earth Brew Co. Director of Brewing Operations about NITRO Cali' Creamin.

Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
Our founder, Dan Love, developed it back in 2010. The recipe has actually remain pretty unchanged since then, although the NITRO version has only been around for 7 or 8 years. Obviously the recipe is the same with the exception of the use of mixed gas instead of just CO2.

What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
My favorite aspect is the way the nitrogen changes the mouthfeel and subdues the vanilla. It adds a really nice creaminess.

Where does this beer’s name come from?
It’s just a simple play-on words, using the cream ale style and fusing it with the classic California Dreamin’ song from the Mamas and the Papas.

Is this your “desert island beer?”
It’s one of them! It’s just so drinkable!

Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
It’s like cream soda… but for adults.

Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
One of the original batches was brewed for the co-founder’s wedding, and it was received so well they decided to put it on the menu full-time. It did crazy well, and they never looked back.

What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Cali Creamin’ in any of its flavors does really well with desserts, obviously, because of the vanilla. We’ve even used it to make apple turnovers!
