Shmaltz to Release Official Star Trek Beers

Beer me up, Scotty. Shmaltz has announced it will release the first of at least two official Star Trek Beers later this month to commemorate the legendary show's 50th anniversary. And go figure, it's Tribble related.

Star Trek Golden Anniversary Ale: The Trouble With Tribbles, an unfiltered ale brewed fittingly with Comet, Galaxy, Polaris, Aurora, and Admiral hops. 

Brewer Drew Schmidt describes the inspiration for the mixed-malt beer: "the Enterprise was on a mission to deliver Quadrotriticale" — a genetically modified cross between wheat and rye — in an effort to save the agrarian planet Sherman."

The beer will debut July 20 at the Star Trek Beyond premiere at the IMAX Embarcadero Marina Park in San Diego, and will then be served at July's San Diego’s Comic-Con and the Star Trek Las Vegas convention in August.

The second beer, Star Trek Golden Anniversary Ale: Voyage to the Northeast Quadrant, will be served at the Star Trek: Mission New York convention hitting New York City’s Javits Center September 2 through September 4.
