“We started releasing Sun King Brewery’s King’s Reserve series in 2011 as a way to showcase our most unique and innovative beers that highlight our barrel aging and wild fermentation programs,” said Dave Colt, co-founder and head brewer and distiller. “Over the years, many Sun King fans have become passionate about trying each new King’s Reserve release, and we want to reward them with our new Royal Order program.”

Sun King King’s Reserve beers are small-batch, limited creations that are barrel-aged and sour brews and have won multiple national brewing awards. Currently Sun King has released more than two dozen King’s Reserve brews. Some of the most popular include:

  • Afternoon Delight, a 2013 Great American Beer Festival® (GABF) gold-medal winning, barrel-aged Dopplebock with aromas of brown sugar and molasses that are accentuated with sweet flavors of vanilla and oak from bourbon barrels
  • Cherry Busey, a three-time GABF medal-winning Flanders-style Oud Bruin Ale, produced using a complex cocktail of wild yeasts and aged in a bevy of barrels; a multitude of Montmorency cherries were lovingly liberated to give the beer its tart cherry tang
  • Sympathy for the Devil, a two-time silver-medal winner at GABF, is a Belgian-style Black Ale loaded with chocolate, roasted walnut, cherry and banana flavors nested inside hints of vanilla and oak from barrel aging

Members will be notified by email when their new Royal Order is ready. Members must pick up their order in person, or designate a proxy to pick up their order, at Sun King’s Indianapolis Brewery and Tap Room within two weeks of notification. Royal Order online sign-up will be open until Dec. 22, 2018. Annual membership costs $385 for each individual, and fans can find official rules online at the Royal Order official rules.
