Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. Wins GABF Silver Medal for English Pale Mild Ale

Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. in Hawley, Pennsylvania has announced that it has won its first-ever Silver Medal at the Great American Beer Festival, which was held digitally in October.

The brewery's English Pale Mild Ale won in the English Mild or Bitter category. Full details from the brewery are below.

October 17, 2020 - Hawley, Pennsylvania - Wallenpaupack Brewing Company, the award-winning craft brewery and brewpub located adjacent to Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos region of Pennsylvania, today announced it has achieved a silver award at the annual Great American Beer Festival (GABF) judging competition for its English Mild Pale Ale specialty beer.

Known and recognized as one of the most coveted awards for American craft breweries, the Great American Beer Festival is an annual celebration and awards ceremony which recognizes the finest beers produced by American craft breweries.  This year, 8,806 entries from 1,720 breweries from all 50 states were evaluated across 91 different categories.  The socially distant judging process was completed over 18 days during 35 tasting sessions with strict safety measures in place.   Each beer was blindly tasted (without knowing the producers’ name) and, if warranted, awards were given in bronze, silver and gold for those beers which best exemplifies the style of the category.

Wallenpaupack Brewing Company’s English Pale Mild Ale earned Silver for category 63: English Mild or Bitter beer.   It was brewed by Logan Ackerley, head brewer, and is the first GABF award Logan has ever received.   English Pale Mild Ale is considered a “session” beer - a beer that is typically lower in alcohol.  At only 3.5% alcohol-by-volume (ABV), it features toffee flavors from English malt and became an immediate fan favorite at the brewery.

“We are humbled and honored to be recognized by the GABF, which is the most prestigious award our brewery has received since inception 3 years ago,” said Becky Ryman, Owner of Wallenpaupack Brewing Company.  “We knew we had a great beer on our hands when we first introduced it, but this award exceeds our wildest expectations.  It’s a testament to our brewing and operations team who are committed to producing quality beers, and our entire staff who have been working tirelessly this year to provide our guests with a great brewery experience.”

This is the first time Wallenpaupack Brewing Company has been recognized by the GABF and is one of only three breweries in the state of Pennsylvania to receive an award in this year’s competition.  It follows awards recognition earlier this year from the 2020 Best in Craft Beer Awards; the New York International Beer Competition; and the 2020 Crafty Marketing Awards for most innovative marketing campaign for its 14-day Quarantine Pack.
