Timmermans Framboise by Brouwerij Timmermans was judged as a Fruit Lambic (style #23D) per the 2021 BJCP Style Guidelines.
The pour of this beer revealed a beautiful rosy hue with very nice carbonation and good head retention. Rich, wonderful raspberry and strawberry aromas were clearly evident up front in the nose. The flavor of this beer featured a light malt backbone and very little bitterness, though the overwhelming flavor was of fruit; raspberries and strawberries come to mind, following along perfectly from the aroma. With this volume of fruit, there was also an impressive amount of sweetness to balance the slight sourness that the style dictates. The contrasting flavors of sourness and sweetness created a cohesive balance that worked well with one another without clashing – fitting for a beer of this tremendous quality. The mouthfeel and body was very light and highly carbonated, much like a champagne leaves the tongue tingling. The aftertaste was smooth with a slight sweetness and mild dryness in the finish.
This wonderfully made fruit lambic is one of the best examples of the style around. If you get a chance to sample this world-class brew, savor the opportunity.
