Volume Integral is a Double IPA collaboration by Pontoon Brewing and Ology Brewing made with El Dorado, Azacca, Mosaic and Belma hops.

This beer pours a gold color with a milky opaque clarity. A large meringue-like white head is persistent as the beer is drank and leaves a very beautiful lacing as the beer is consumed. The aroma consists of a medium juicy orange and very slight graininess and dough at the forefront. As the beer warms up, slight nuances of mango, coconut and papaya begin to manifest. In a Double IPA, I would have expected the hop character to be more lively, especially with the stated hop additions. On the sip, a medium tropical flavor of coconut and star fruit, followed by medium-low orange hop flavor is at the forefront with a slight lime towards the back of the hop flavor along with a very general tropical hop flavor. Low hop bitterness manifests at the end in the aftertaste. A low grainy malt flavor is present with a medium-low malt sweetness. After the first sip, the depth of flavor diminishes significantly, and the flavor becomes fairly lackluster. No doubt a very high carbonation with a distinct prickliness on the tongue does not aide in the persistence of the flavor. Despite this, there is still a slight creaminess that coats the tongue after it’s swallowed. A very low alcohol warmth is present nodding to the Double IPA style. Overall, the extremely high carbonation gets in the way of the flavor of this beer and scrubs the palate clean of the flavor of this beer making it unremarkable. I would love to try a less carbonated version of this beer in hopes it is better than the sample submitted.
