The Brewers of South Suburbia invite you to participate in the 25th Annual Charlie Orr Memorial Chicago Cup Challenge home brewing competition, which is the longest continuously running home brewing competition in the greater Chicago area. This competition will take place on Saturday March 26, 2016 at Giovan’s Restaurant, in Crest Hill, IL.  This competition is a part of the Midwest Homebrewer of the Year competition circuit.  It features the Chicago Beer Cup, which is awarded to the Homebrew Club whose members collectively accumulate the most points. Medals and prizes will be awarded to the winners of each flight, including separate Best of Show Judging for beers and non-beers.

This competition is AHA/BJCP sanctioned and open to any amateur homebrewer age 21 or older. We are using the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for this competition.  All shipped entries must be received at the ship-to location by the entry deadline, no exceptions!  Please allow for shipping time.

When utilizing drop-off locations for entries, please pay attention to the cut off dates as they are different for each drop-off location.  If you drop off entries at a drop off location after the final date posted there is no guarantee that your entries will be received in time to be judged in this competition and you will not receive a refund for the entries.

All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc).

The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, shipped entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrive damaged.

The competition organizers reserve the right to combine styles for judging and to restructure awards as needed depending upon the quantity and quality of entries.

Qualified judging of all entries is the primary goal of our event. Judges will evaluate and score each entry. The average of the scores will rank each entry in its category. Each flight will have at least one BJCP judge.  The 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines will be followed.

NEW THIS YEAR, WE ARE USING THE 2015 BJCP GUIDELINES.  Within regular categories (i.e. those not listed below), brewers may have multiple entries but may only enter each subcategory once.  The categories below are deemed special categories and will have the following entry limits:

Beer
- Within subcategory 7C, brewers may enter up to 1 Pale Kellerbier and up to 1 Amber Kellerbier.
- Within subcategory 21B, brewers may enter up to one example of each of the 6 types of specialty IPA.
- Within category 27, brewers may enter up to one example of each of the 9 types of Historical Beer.

Cider
- Within subcategory C2F, brewers may enter multiple examples of Specialty Cider/Perry so long as they are distinct and   different recipes.

Mead
- Within subcategory M4C, brewers may enter multiple examples of Experimental Mead so long as they are distinct and different recipes.

Need help figuring this out?  Here are some examples…

Example 1 - a brewer may enter multiple beers under category 21B – Specialty IPA so long as they are of different subcategories such as a Belgian IPA and a Black IPA, but a brewer may not enter two Belgian IPAs.

Example 2 – a brewer may enter both a Pale Kellerbier and an Amber Kellerbier under Category 7C, but the brewer may not enter two Pale Kellerbiers.

Example 3 – a brewer who has made two different Experimental Meads, using two different recipes and sets of ingredients, may enter both of them into category 27.

These rules will be strictly enforced!  Multiple entries in an unapproved subcategory (i.e. one not listed above) will be disqualified and the entrant will not receive a refund for the disqualified entry. The competition coordinator reserves the right to combine categories based on number of entries. All possible efforts will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style entered.

The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Blue Ribbon Panel based on a second judging of the top winners. Bottles will not be returned to entrants.
