Anheuser-Busch has apologized for a highly insensitive scroll message found on some of its Bud Light bottles.
The message found on the bottom of the label reads, "The perfect beer for removing 'no' from your vocabulary for the night."
Social media erupted with angry demands for the removal of the offensive slogan, which seemed completely tone-deaf to the issue of date rape that has become a focus of controversy on college campuses nationwide.
Vice President of Anheuser-Busch's Bud Light division Alexander Lambrecht released a statement saying that 140 diferent scroll messages were generated for bottles, but that "It’s clear that this message missed the mark, and we regret it.” The company did not acknowledge any plans to try to remove the bottles with this message from the marketplace.
Anheuser-Busch has been in the news with its recent more aggressive advertising and slogans. There was a social media backlash to its "Brewed the Hard Way" commercial which first aired during this year's Super Bowl, resulting in an online campaign by the company to counter complaints from craft beer drinkers.
