The Beer Connoisseur Announces Top-Rated Beer and Breweries of 2018

The Beer Connoisseur Announces Top Beer and Breweries of 2018

The Beer Connoisseur magazine published its Winter 2019, 40th edition, titled The Beer in Review last Monday, January 7. Each year the winter edition acknowledges the best beer from the year as judged in the publication's Official Review and awards the breweries that received the collective highest scores throughout the year.

The Beer Connoisseur is excited to announce that Riegele Privat, a beer brewed by Brauhaus Riegele of Augsburg, Germany, is the magazine’s Top-Rated Beer of 2018 with a World Class rating of 98. According to BJCP Grand Master II judge Michael Bury, Privat is “a nigh-perfect interpretation of a Festbier that demands to be imbibed by the boot or the liter.”

Brauhaus Riegele also received 2nd Runner Up in the Best Breweries of 2018 category with high scores for its beers, Riegele Augustus and Riegele Noctus 100, which both received Exceptional ratings.

Additionally, Breckenridge Brewery of Littleton, Colorado is 2018’s 1st Runner Up with its Nitro Irish Stout, Brewery Lane Series: Imperial Vanilla Porter Aged in Rum Barrels, and Hop Peak IPA, which received 285 out of a possible 300 points.

The Beer Connoisseur is also very excited to acknowledge pFriem Family Brewers of Hood River, Oregon as the Best Brewery of 2018. The brewery’s top 3 rated beers – Oud Bruin, Maple Barrel Aged Smoked Porter and Nectarine Golden Ale combined for a total of 287 out of a possible 300 points, the highest of any brewery. This is an especially impressive achievement considering this is the second time pFriem has won the award in three years.

Lynn Davis, founder, editor and publisher of The Beer Connoisseur, had this to say of the awarded breweries: “Congratulations to the brewers of these excellent beers! A quick note: Our judges review only commercial examples of beer, not specially brewed versions for competition purposes. To us, our judges’ evaluations are a true measure of the quality and care put into these beers on a day-to-day basis.”

This year’s winter edition has been introduced for the first time as a special annual printed publication to complement its bi-monthly premium web magazine.

The edition spotlights 2018’s top 250 beers, along with perspectives from brewers and judges of the year’s 14 World Class Rated Beers. It also details the best beers by style category and takes a forward look at the most important trends for the industry from the perspectives of the consumer, craft segment, beer-centric restaurants, emerging beer styles and popular hops.

Learn more about these esteemed breweries and their beer and don’t miss the insider look at these important 2019 trends.
