Idaho-based Grand Teton Brewing has released American Sour 2014, the first of its Brewers’ Series, which will feature unique limited releases of the company’s best barrel-aged beers.
American Sour 2014 has a pale wheat ale base, with Lactobacillus for souring and house Hefeweizen yeast, which adds spicy and fruity notes of pepper, clove, green apple and banana. It is then conditioned in oak barrels housing Brettanomyces bruxellensis before being mixed with Grand Teton’s Snarling Badger, an Imperial Berliner Weisse. This mix is then placed back in barrels, some oak and some wine, which impart added, varying flavors.
As with all of its Brewers’ Series, Grand Teton will package American Sour 2014 in 11.2 ounce bottles and 1/6 barrel kegs. The bottles will continue to mature, and can be cellared for years.
American Sour 2014 won a Silver Medal in the American-Style Wild or Sour Ale category at the North American Beer Awards, held in June.
