AltBitter

Widmer and Deschutes collaborated for a one-of-a-kind beer, wholly conscious of style yet unconcerned with convention.

AltBitter is a 9.5 percent ABV blend of German Style Altbier and ESB aged in rye whiskey barrels, and the blend managed to remain pristine after a year of sitting in our cellar. Rye whiskey from the barrel adds a smooth pop, like a half-finished lolly. We can't say how it was fresh off the line, but after a spin around the sun it was majestic and deemed "eminently quaffable," our highest praise, despite the towering alcohol by volume.
