We spoke with Moniker Brewery Head Brewer Benjamin Estes about Lagered Hedonism 03.
Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
This is one of mine.
What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
This beer's balance is my favorite, it's dark but not overly roasty, it's a lager but not thin, and there’s a lot of flavor but it's not heavy or filling.
Where does this beer’s name come from?
We wanted to make a series of Czech-inspired lagers, the name “Lagered Hedonism” fit perfectly because Hedonism is the idea that pleasure is the most important aspect of life, and that it should be prioritized over other values. That's how we feel at Moniker about lagers.
Is this your “desert island beer?”
Desert island beer?... No. I would say it’s my "lost in a corn maze in Autumn" beer.
Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
A dark lager you can drink all day and night.
Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
We host our anniversary party every year in January. This year we used this beer to expose our patrons to Bierstacheln aka hot poker beers. I spent hours outside in the freezing cold poking beers. It was 100% worth it watching regulars, friends and family enjoying something new they have never tried before and loving it.
