Don’t Haze Me Bro by Pontoon Brewing is an IPA (BJCP category 21A), but as the name insinuates, it crosses over into Specialty IPA subcategory (21B) as a hazy New England-style IPA.
It pours a murky, but not entirely opaque, deep yellow color with orange tones and a mousy off-white head that clings to the glass. The aroma is hop-forward with lots of citrus (tangerine, grapefruit) and tropical (pineapple, passion fruit) notes as well as a bit of herbal cattiness and pine. Underneath the moderately high hops is a light grainy malt, some fresh dough and a bit of honey with mild fruity esters (apricot, peach). The flavor is also big on the hops, fruit forward (grapefruit, tangerine, mango), some herbal grassiness and moderate bitterness. It’s almost a cross between the hazy New England style and a traditional IPA, with a normal bitterness and a bit of old school dank/pine to go along with the mangoes and cream.
