Hazy Cannon by Heavy Seas Beer was judged as a Specialty IPA (New England IPA), style 21B per the 2015 BJCP style guidelines.
Hazy India Pale suggests another NEIPA pushing the outer limits of haze and hops. This beer, however, is not. It has medium juicy citrus aromas laced with tropical fruit and hints of berry, but the oats and wheat in the malt bill tone the maltiness and body down a bit. The beer is svelte with a touch of elegance. The beer has a champagne hiss on the pour dropping gold with a light haze under an ephemeral white cap. All the flavors in the aroma hit the tongue with some light sweet notes from the grain, and then the beer goes bone-dry accented by a lightly spiced, crisp clean bitterness. The fermentation character is clean, and the alcohol is smooth and barely noticeable. The body is medium-light, and the carbonation is medium-plus. The combination of the carbonation, the crisp dry finish, the lightness and the pleasant, well-rounded bitterness make this beer eminently drinkable and one that you may want to keep around for those times when you just want a solid brew.
