Fruitopia Berliner Weisse by Garage Brewing Co. is a fruited Berliner Weisse. As such, this is a refreshing small beer with plenty of flavor and sensations for the palate to enjoy. This brew is being evaluated as a Category 29A Fruit Beer with a Berliner Weisse as the base beer (Cat 23A in the 2015 BJCP Guidelines).

The nose has a ripe melon and berry character, with mango and tropical fruits coming through quite well. There is also a touch of a sour lactic sharpness as you would expect for the base beer style. The aroma is appropriate and quite attractive! This moderately carbonated brew pours a quite clear light golden color (perhaps a little on the dark side for the style) with a fairly small-bubbled white head that dissipates rather quickly, as expected for a sour style brew such as this.

The flavor has a light to moderate lactic tartness with melon and tropical fruit flavors coming through, delivering a light sweetness that is complementary to the base beer. This sweetness is not cloying, and is akin to the addition of a small amount of a fruit syrup as is often done when drinking a Berliner Weisse. These characters linger throughout the drink. There is a slight wheat-like graininess in the finish. The body is quite thin with very low alcohol noted as appropriate for the style.

This is a nice refreshing summer offering. The level of the fruit is spot on to complement the base beer. Fruitopia Fruited Sour Beer is a very nice effort well worth searching out to try!
