Tank Dog Hazy Imperial IPA by New Realm Brewing is being evaluated as a Hazy IPA (Category 21C) from the 2021 BJCP Style guidelines.
Aromas of pine and resin with a small amount of biscuit intermingle with fruity esters of pithy citrus hops. Circus peanuts also come through as the beer warms in the glass.
This beer is golden-colored and hazy with a very visual carbonated structure given the amount of bubbles seen rising quickly to the top. The foamy white head had good persistence.
This beer features an interesting flavor profile of juicy mango, honeydew and pineapple. The juiciness is medium-sweet with a very soft hop bitterness as is required for the style. The flavors are intense and provide a long drying finish, and a moderate amount of alcohol was detected.
Medium-high body and medium-high carbonation with a moderate alcoholic warmth keeps the mouthfeel on point.
A delicious beer overall that focuses mostly on the citrus and fruit characteristics the hops can provide. There is a citrus-pithy characteristic that gives it an interesting experience. While the alcohol strength may limit its drinkability, there’s a basket of fruit-forward flavors present for balance.
