Description

FRIEK is an evolution, an imaginative amalgamation invented by our brewers. Multiple KRIEK Lambic style ales are fermented with WILD yeast and TART cherries and then moved into OAK BARRELS to age and sour taking on the CHERRY flavors. As the beer matures, FRAMBOISES (raspberries) from Schroyer Family Farms in Fort Collins are handpicked and readied for the beer. The fresh RASPBERRIES are added immediately prior to the final blending. The sweet and tart flavors MINGLE on the tongue with a sparkling dry finish.

If you like sour flavors, this beer is for you. However, if you like complexity in your sour beers, you’ll find this beer wanting. It pours a deep coral color that’s reminiscent of a rosé wine. Its very spritzy, with a low, fast-fading head. The aroma is sweet cherry at the front followed by a lighter, tart raspberry character, which is acidic and fruit-forward with low oak and funk qualities. The flavor is similar. The sweet/sour character brings up memories of sweet tarts with a light woody note. It has a very light body, and very high carbonation and effervescence that is very dry and prickly on the tongue, similar to a champagne but with an acidic, puckering finish. It’s an enjoyable beer, but is definitely lacking in complexity for a lambic; it comes off more as a sour cherry soda than a beer at times.
