Väsen Brewing Co. Brewing Team Talks Radapils
91 Rating - Exceptional
We spoke with the Väsen Brewing Co. Brewing Team about Radapils.
Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
This beer was a collaboration between the entire brewing staff. Everyone had a little hand in it. Our team includes Tony Giordano (Founding Brewmaster), Josh Kauffman (Brewer), Stefan McFayden (Brewer) and Jon Warner (Brewery Scientist).
What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
My favorite aspect of this beer is the bright bitterness and aromatics of the Czech Saaz and German Hersbrucker hops that keep you coming back for more.
Where does this beer’s name come from?
This beer is named after Radagast, the old Slavic god of hospitality, fire and the evening sky, as well as a wizard of Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings. We figured: what better way to show hospitality than with a pilsner?
Is this your “desert island beer?”
This is my desert island beer. I can drink this beer all year long.
Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Radapils is a thirst-quenching, light, crisp, all-day beer.
Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
Our team went on a staff camping trip earlier this fall to Sherando Lake Park (west of Richmond, VA), and we packed quite a few cases of Radapils. It’s just the perfect beer for an outdoor drinking session. The cooler temperatures up in the Blue Ridge Mountains really made us appreciate its crispness. Radapils is probably the best all-day drinking brew in our portfolio.
What’s a good food pairing for this beer?
The best pairing for Radapils is a simple, well-crafted margherita pizza.
