Low Light by Motorworks Brewing is being evaluated as a Fruit Beer (Category 29A) from the 2015 BJCP guidelines.

Light straw color, a foamy white head with average persistence and small bubbles can be seen rising to the surface, which bring out the aromatics. Slightly hazy possibly due to the added fruit.

Moderate citrus aromas of lime peel and fresh lemon juice upfront, with a slight hint of spiciness. No malt aromas detected, yet a small amount of a brown sugar character is present as the beer warms.

There are neutral malt flavors followed by a moderate amount of lime and lemon peel character, ending with a low level of white peppercorn spiciness. A faint amount of sweetness, from the adjuncts presumably, is detected just prior to the finish. Floral hops are here too, but at an extremely low level. The finish is soft and long-lasting. The added flavors balance well against the base beer.

The mouthfeel presents a light-bodied beer with moderate carbonation. No alcoholic warmth, and without too much acidity from the citrus fruit added something this beer judge can appreciate.

The overall picture of this flavored beer is that of a shandy if you will. A very good beer that surprised the judge in its overall drinkability. I can see this beer becoming a favorite around the summer barbecue season, especially with the younger beer drinkers. The aroma comes through pleasantly as you raise the glass to your lips.
