Scrimshaw Pilsner by North Coast Brewing Co. was judged according to the 2021 BJCP Style Guidelines, Category 5D – German Pilsner.
The pour revealed a golden hue with slight chill haze. There was moderate carbonation in the glass that revealed cascading bubbles. The aroma of this beer had a very nice grainy fragrance and negligible hops (okay for this style). The flavor was balanced very nicely between the sweetness of the malt with subtle hop bittering appropriate for this style. Beyond that, I got hints of subtle “bread-like” flavors that melded nicely with this beer. The mouthfeel was sparkling in the palate and the body was medium. The beer finished slightly dry and crisp in its aftertaste. A nicely made beer that is very drinkable for the upcoming summer months.
