Assertive grainy malt sweetness and bold citrus hops combine with some moderate pear esters for an inviting aroma. The appearance is a hazy gold — likely from dry hopping — with a dense, persistent, white head. A nice-looking beer to be sure, but it’s in the flavor where this beer excels; the malt explodes with notes of toast, bread, and light caramel atop dominant hop flavors of orange, resin, tropical fruit, and a tinge of mint. The hop bitterness is firm, smooth, persistent and lingers beyond the dry finish. There is a very light alcohol warming, as expected for the style and a medium-low carbonation which is lower than expected. For a Double IPA, this beer is very sessionable.
