Grainwave by CERIA Brewing Co. is a Belgian style non-alcoholic beer that probably falls closest to a Witbier (BJCP 2015 category 24A). This beer pours a bright hazy straw color with lots of fizzy tiny bubbles that keep an ever-present rim of white head going. The aroma is that of sweet candied orange peel and spices like white peppercorn, coriander and chamomile followed by a thin pizza crust-like malt character. The flavor is similar, but a bit more one-dimensional. Some light doughy and crackery malt character is there for body, but it’s largely focused towards sweet citrus peel. There is low bitterness and very low hop character with maybe a hint of light grassy/earthy Saaz-like hops. Overall it’s a lot like a normal wit, but with a bit more body/sweetness. I’ve never had a non-alcoholic beer before, but it was not clear that this was the case while drinking this brew.
