Smooth Operator Peanut Butter Porter by Low Road Brewing is an American Porter with peanut butter from Low Road Brewing. I am judging this according to the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines, Category 30A, Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer.
The glass arrives showing an opaque, jet-black beer with a 4” tall frothy tan head. A huge peanut butter and dark chocolate aroma emerges from the glass as I raise it for my first nose-filling sniff. Medium toasted peanuts and rich, chocolate and roasted malt aroma dominate. My first big quaff confirms what my nose told me already – it features medium-high dark chocolate and toasted peanut butter, a dry finish and lingering roastiness.
No other aromas escape this rich peanut butter porter. Light hop bitterness helps keep the malt sweetness in check. The roast malt character yields faint coffee notes late in the flavor. The beer is full-bodied with medium-high carbonation.
This beer would pair well with a turtle cheesecake with crumbled bacon on top.
A wonderful beer that’s rich, filling and immensely enjoyable.
