Destress Express by Georgia Beer Co. was reviewed under the auspices of the Beer Judge Certification Program style guidelines, category 34B mixed-style beer.
A pleasant aromatic blend of roasted grain is immediately in evidence and is accompanied by a pronounced malty sweetness from the base malt.
A medium dark tan head is supported by an inky black-colored beer, underscoring the use of coffee and roasted barley in the grain bill.
The flavor is a harmonious and pleasing balance of roasted malts and coffee notes offset by the sweetening effect of unfermented sugars. Both hops and fruity esters take a secondary position to the roast and leave no doubt which way this effort is directed.
A full body smooth (Enhanced by lactose additions) lightly carbonated example of the style with hints of alcoholic warming.
A coffee and cream beer that is well conceived and should be enjoyed to a great degree by coffee drinkers.
