Beeracuda by Abita Brewing Co. was judged as #2A (International Pale Lager) according to the 2021 BJCP guidelines — this is the best category for this “Gulf Coast Cerveza.” The pour revealed a golden hue with slight chill haze. It had a very nice carbonation level, however, the bubbles dissipated quickly in the glass. The aroma was very nice and had hints of grain/corn-like component along with a malty sweetness. Hops were negligible (okay for style). The flavor of this beer had nice hints of malt sweetness balanced with a moderate hop bitterness. The grain and corn flavor really stand out and accentuate the beer. The hop bittering was appropriate for this style, which was about medium. The mouthfeel and body was about medium and the carbonation level was a bit low, though it could use a bit more. The aftertaste was smooth, clean and dry in the palate. Overall, a nice pale lager for those long, hot summer days.
