Real American Beer Zero by The Real American is being evaluated as an American Light Lager (Category 1A) from the 2021 BJCP Style Guidelines.
This brew opens with grainy, neutral malt aromas, complemented by a whisper of delicate fruitiness that gradually shifts toward intriguing, apple-like estery notes.
Pale yellow straw in color, it pours crystal clear with a brisk white head that vanishes quickly, leaving behind a lively cascade of tiny bubbles ascending from the bottom, a visual promise of its light viscosity.
The flavor profile is a pleasant, gentle journey through subtle corn-like sweetness, while the apple ester detected in the aroma follows through in a mild, non-intrusive way. The beer’s balance is a quiet, elusive act, as there is very little hop presence and a notable absence of typical American hop characteristics. The finish is short and slightly thin, matching the modest, airy bitterness.
True to the style, this is a very light-bodied offering with a high degree of carbonation, delivering a satisfying carbonic bite on the tongue.
It is a remarkably light and refreshing beer, making it a welcome companion during the hot summer months, perhaps paired with grilled fare or picnic foods without ever overwhelming the palate. As an added bonus, its non-alcoholic nature makes it all the more approachable and refreshing.
