Oklahoma Suks Beer Returns Ahead of the Eagerly Awaited Texas-Oklahoma Football Rivalry
Football season brings back one of Texas’ most spirited traditions, and this year there’s a beer to match the occasion. Independence Brewing’s Oklahoma Suks is returning in limited-edition cans, giving fans a tongue-in-cheek way to toast the annual matchup between the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners. With its playful packaging and Austin roots, the seasonal brew has become a fitting part of the fall football ritual.
In a press release, Independence Brewing, the makers of Oklahoma Suks announced that the beer is now available at H-E-B.
Amy Cartwright, a UT-Austin alumna and co-founder of Independence Brewing, created Oklahoma Suks as a tongue-in-cheek salute to the Longhorns’ rival to the north. For the release, they repackage its year-round Austin Amber ale in football-themed cans suited to cooler fall weather and game-day gatherings.
The retro-style can includes several pointed references for University of Oklahoma fans, including an upside-down silhouette of the state and a burnt-orange color scheme.
At 4.9% alcohol by volume, Oklahoma Suks — the same beer sold year-round as Austin Amber — is brewed with caramel-blend and pale-chocolate malts, Nugget and Cascade hops, and American Ale (Chico) yeast. Oklahoma Sucks is a fun game-day staple and pairs well with barbecue, macaroni and cheese, pizza, and wings.
The Longhorns play against Oklahoma on Saturday October 10.
