Brian Eichhorn is a Grand Master IV BJCP beer judge with deep expertise in beer evaluation, mead judging, and homebrewing. Since immersing himself in the craft beer scene in 2004, Brian has built a reputation as a thoughtful, experienced, and respected figure in the brewing community. He began homebrewing in 2008, started judging in 2010, and achieved the rank of Master by 2013. He currently holds one of the highest BJCP ranks—Grand Master IV—and is also certified as a Mead Judge.
Brian has judged in over 100 competitions across 12 states, including the prestigious Great American Beer Festival. He previously served as an Associate Exam Director and continues to act as a BJCP exam administrator and proctor. With a philosophy grounded in pushing personal limits and expanding sensory awareness, Brian is committed to providing meaningful, constructive feedback to brewers at all levels.
He also plays a key role in organizing major beer events, including serving as judge coordinator for the Festival of Wood & Barrel-Aged Beer (FoBAB)—the largest competition of its kind in the world. Brian’s passion for the craft, combined with his technical expertise and judging experience, makes him a leading authority in beer reviews and competition standards.
