Carolyn Smagalski

Carolyn Smagalski, known in the beer world as “The Beer Fox,” is an award-winning journalist, Certified Beer Judge (BJCP), and Certified Beer Server (Cicerone) with decades of experience championing beer education and culture. As Editor of Beer & Brewing at BellaOnline, she brings a unique and inclusive voice to the brewing world, earning the 2006 Brewers Association Beer Journalism Award in Electronic Media. She is also a contributing author of the internationally published book Beer Hunter, Whisky Chaser.

Carolyn’s work has appeared in The Beer Connoisseur™, Beerlovers.com, and numerous beer-focused platforms, where she covers topics ranging from beer and food pairings to gluten-free brewing, culture, and health. She has judged at top-tier national and international competitions and co-founded the Philly Beer Geek competition. Her events—ranging from tastings and dinners to trivia and seminars—highlight her talent for engaging audiences and making beer approachable.
