Jason Johnson has been homebrewing since 2000 and has held the rank of National Judge in the BJCP since 2005. He co-founded and co-hosted Brewnology: The Podcast, a popular series that explored all aspects of beer judging, with 50 episodes available on YouTube. Jason is also the author of Roasted: A Homebrewer’s Guide to Homeroasting Grain, a go-to resource for homebrewers looking to master grain roasting.
While currently an independent homebrewer, Jason was an active member and president of the Manty Malter’s homebrew club in Wisconsin, where he led the judging education program. He also offers free BJCP prep classes on YouTube, helping aspiring judges worldwide prepare for their exams through accessible online education and personal guidance.
Jason specializes in traditional classic beer styles, frequently brewing American ales like Pale Ales, IPAs, and Pre-Prohibition Lagers. His brewing interests also include Chocolate Oatmeal Stout, Belgian Wit, Saison, Dubbel, and Cream Ale. As a dedicated judge and craft beer enthusiast, Jason enjoys tasting and evaluating the full spectrum of beer styles with expertise and passion.
