Description
Double Cold Brew is dark with a pronounced head and a long, lingering finish. The beer is not sweet, nor is it dry – it strikes a complex balance in between. The coffee flavor takes the lead in this beer, instead of a supporting role like many Imperial Coffee Stouts.

Alcatraz Double Cold Brew by Alcatraz Brewing is an Imperial Stout with cold-brewed coffee and was judged as a Spice, Herb or Vegetable Beer (BJCP sub-style 30A). It poured black and opaque into the glass, forming a moderately thick white head with somewhat rapid dissipation. Its aroma featured prominent coffee notes with supporting chocolate and other dark roasted malt ones. The flavor profile was also coffee- and dark malt-forward with hops to balance the other flavors only, rather than to add distinctive additional flavors. The mouthfeel included noticeable alcohol warmth and malt sweetness adequately balanced by bitterness from the coffee, dark malts and hops. Overall, this well-balanced beer displayed high drinkability, though not the complexity and layers of flavor displayed in other beers of this style.
