Description

Our take on the regional classic from Cologne, Germany. Brewed with heaps of German and local malts and fermented for many moons at cooler temperatures providing a lager-like ale that is crisp, clean, and refreshing.

Contee by Definitive Brewing Co. was judged as a BJCP Style 5B, Kölsch.

If you are spending the afternoon in a small café with a handful of friends or enjoying the day from a sidewalk table this is the beer you want. It has a light haze in the glass with a head with moderate to poor retention. Soft and subtle in smell and taste it offers a thirst-quenching delicate malt flavor lightly seasoned with a dash of apple and pear and accented with a mild, refreshing bitterness and a crisp clean finish that leaves you wanting another glass. Nothing is very big, but it all works very well together. It has just enough alcohol to lightly loosen the conversation without impairing judgment and just enough flavor to keep it interesting without overwhelming. This is a delicate style that does not travel well and it is a pleasure to enjoy a glass that is fresh and has not suffered the abuse of a 3500-mile trip that strips the character from so many of the imports
