Social Lubricant DIPA by Gnarly Barley Brewing Co. was judged as a #22A (Double IPA) according to the 2021 BJCP Guidelines. The opening of this canned beer automatically revealed a very nice, strong hoppy aroma in the nose. The pour revealed a murky, hazy, cloudy, straw-like hue that had excellent carbonation resulting in very tiny bubbles and a creamy, rocky white head. The head retention was also very good for this beer. The first initial taste had a nice malty sweetness and well-balanced hop bitterness. The hop bitterness blended nicely and was not overtly assertive or aggressive. Nice resin hop flavors were “juicy” as stated on the can. The aftertaste was moderate for the body and mouthfeel. Had a real nice creaminess in the palate. The beer was smooth in the finish, but it was just a bit sweet in the aftertaste.
