Description

After a full-day brewing beer, this pilsner is the go-to beer for most on our team. Alluvium is made with European-style malt which is sustainably grown and malted right here in California. Mirroring the ancient floor malting techniques of the best and oldest German breweries, this Pilsner gets nearly 100% of its malt from Admiral Maltings located in nearby Alameda, CA. Generously hopped, Alluvium is aromatically imbued with spicy noble hops and a pleasantly bitter finish. This beer is as local as it gets going from farm to fermenter in less than 150 miles! Prost!

Alluvium Pilsner by Seismic Brewing Co. was evaluated as a BJCP 2021 Category 5D, German Pils. The beer pours a brilliantly clear light straw color with a fairly large poofy head of tiny white bubbles that fades slowly. The beer is pretty and effervescent with continuous rising bubbles. The aroma starts with a light biscuity and bready note followed by moderate herbal and citrusy (leaning towards lemon) hops. Biscuity notes highlight the flavor with leafy herbal and lemony hops (and just a bit of minty tingle, but without the minty flavor). A medium-length finish continues with the biscuit notes and a firm but smooth medium-low bittering. The balance of hops and malt is slightly to the malty side. This is a very pleasant, refreshing, bright and crushable beer that would pair nicely with a thinly sliced London broil smothered with a rich gravy made with red wine and the drippings.
