Alpha Abstraction Vol. 18 by Wild Leap Brew Co. was accomplished using the 2015 style guidelines provided by the Beer Judge Certification Program under category 22A Double IPA.
A plethora of hop aromas is released upon the initial pour and is defined by a blend first and foremost of passion fruit with piney aromatics with just a bit of earthiness in the background.
Light amber in color, cloudy (as per style) and topped with a big white head that held up.
Juicy fruity flavors were dominant and characterized by citrus, passion fruit and piney notes that were cleanly expressed up front and led to a light dry finish. Mouthfeel was also light and was aided by a non-aggressive alcohol presence that enhanced drinkability.
Earthy hop character balanced nicely with the fruity nature of this New England-style double IPA to create uniqueness and avoid a one-dimensional example of the style.
