Hoot Hard Seltzer - Blood Orange Mango by Night Shift Brewing pours clear with just the faintest peach hue with some bubbles drifting up. The aroma provides some low-level fruity notes of citrus and a touch of peach. Neither are distinctly recognizable as blood orange or mango but are in the family. A very faint sweet impression, sugary like cotton candy. Nothing off or out of place, no noticeable water chemistry issues are noted.
The flavor follows the aromatics. The slight tartness of the citrus is aided by the carbonation to lend a very subtle bitterness element that is more reminiscent of blood orange. Again, the mango reads more like peach and brings some countering sweetness. There is a little something artificial tasting about the fruit but this may be coming from the water. It reminds me a little of the flavored powder in Pixy Stix straws, a little mineral water aspect but not particularly “chalky." The flavors do not linger and the carbonation is sufficient to clean off the palate. Very light and refreshing although I think I would like more carbonation.
Hoot is a nice summer thirst-quencher. Refreshing with enough spritz to wake up your palate and nice clean flavors. My biggest complaint might be the lack of a distinct flavor profile and the somewhat artificial flavor aspect. Overall, a refreshing and enjoyable seltzer.
