Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
The 21st Amendment brew crew came together to brainstorm ideas for a light, easy-drinking beer, and we decided on an American lager because it’s a style we all enjoy. We brewed several pilot versions of Amendment Lager at our pub brewery in San Francisco, where we develop all our beers before taking them to our San Leandro brewery to brew, package, and send out into the world for you all to enjoy.

What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
For me it hits all the marks of what I want in American lager, it’s bright, it’s crisp and refreshing. It’s easy drinking and the ABV is low. So you can enjoy a few of them and not feel overwhelmed.

Where does this beer’s name come from?
At 21st Amendment, we have a long-standing tradition of having fun with history and Americana culture. The imagery on the can features an eagle in a somewhat comical pose. We also have fun with the phrase ‘Pass me an Amendment (Lager)’ and its double entendre meaning.

Is this your “desert island beer?”
It’s definitely up there for desert island beer. I think you want something that’s not going to overwhelm you over time and that’s approachable, while on your island, surfing and eating poke/sushi. For me Amendment Lager hits like that.

Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
How about four 🙂 Bright, Clean, Refreshing and Approachable.

Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
As a brewer, I naturally enjoy a wide range of styles, from West Coast IPAs, Hazy IPAs, and Belgians to Porters and Stouts, and everything in between. Every brewer has a little secret, and mine is that I really enjoy American lagers, Amendment Lager. Sometimes, you’re not in the mood for a big, bold beer, nor do you want a soda or even just water. You want something with flavor that’s still approachable.

What’s a good food pairing for this beer?
It pairs with all the food we love, pizza, grilled foods like chicken, brats, and of course poke/sushi.
