Richard Alexander Appointed President of Beer Canada Amid Industry Challenges and Opportunities

Beer Canada has announced a leadership transition that signals a new chapter for the country’s brewing industry. With decades of executive experience and a strong background in advocacy, Richard Alexander steps into the role of President at a pivotal time for brewers and consumers alike. His appointment reflects the Association’s ongoing commitment to championing the interests of Canada’s beer industry from grain to glass.

In a press release, Beer Canada also extended its thanks and best wishes to outgoing President, CJ Hélie, who has chosen to retire after joining Beer Canada in 2021, and completing over 38 years in the Canadian beverage alcohol industry.

Richard Alexander’s appointment takes effect on October 20th.

Richard Alexander is a veteran Canadian executive with extensive experience in hospitality, regulated businesses, business associations and effective advocacy.

“Richard is uniquely qualified to lead Beer Canada at this critical time for the Canadian beer industry, bringing a wealth of experience, enthusiasm and a track record of successes in advocacy ” said Andrew Oland, President of Moosehead Breweries of Canada and Chair of Beer Canada.

Alexander stated, “I’m excited to take on this great opportunity and responsibility to ensure Canada’s brewers, beer consumers and all those implicated throughout beer’s added value supply chain from the farm to hospitality are well positioned to succeed and thrive well into the future”.

As Beer Canada enters this new era under Richard Alexander’s leadership, the organization remains focused on strengthening the voice of brewers and ensuring a sustainable future for the industry. With evolving consumer preferences and regulatory landscapes, collaboration across the supply chain — from farmers to hospitality — will be more important than ever. Beer connoisseurs, industry partners, and all Canadians who value the role of beer in our culture are encouraged to stay engaged and support the continued success of Canadian brewing.
