Hallertau Pils by Human Robot Brewing Co. is being evaluated as a German Pils, BJCP 2021 Style 5D. 

Bready white cracker notes dominate the aroma, accompanied by a moderately low noble hop presence — spicy, floral, and herbal. A hint of sulfur is noticeable, which is perfectly acceptable and indicative of the lager yeast used, as many strains exhibit this character.

The beer appears light yellow to straw in color, with a big, persistent white foamy head. Many fine bubbles rise steadily in the glass.

The flavor mirrors the aroma, showcasing white cracker and bready malt characteristics that truly shine through. Hop flavor is moderate and consistent, featuring the noble hop notes expected for the style — floral, spicy, and herbal. Bitterness is moderately high, as it should be, balanced by a clean lager fermentation profile. The finish is slightly malty yet dry.

Medium-bodied with moderately high carbonation, this pilsner is very pleasant on the palate.

This is a fresh and classic example of the German Pils style — one that highlights the use of quality, fresh ingredients. It’s a pleasure to drink and stands as an exceptional representation of the style. A tip of the hat to its Bavarian roots — Prost

Brewer’s Description

Hallertau pils is brewed as an ode to the industrial German pilsners of the 50’s to the late 70’s when technology allowed more efficient processes, but the liquid was still brewed “the old way”. We use a double decoction mash, 100% German Pilsner malt, and 100% German Hallertau Mittlefru hops.
