Cape May Brewing Company Wins Bronze at Great American Beer Festival

Cape May, NJ -- Cape May Brewing Company is pleased to announce their bronze medal win at the 2019 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition, the world’s largest commercial beer competition. The GABF, presented by the Brewers Association, recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded on October 5 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, in 107 beer categories covering 174 different beer styles (including all subcategories), establishing the best examples of each style in the country.

CMBC was recognized in the Brown Porter beer-style category for their Honey Porter, the first Jersey Fresh-designated beer in New Jersey. With subtle notes of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, roasted and dark crystal malts shine through in a smooth and light-bodied porter that is balanced by a hint of sweetness thanks to the local Jersey Fresh honey.

“Honey Porter has long been one of the mainstays of our lineup,” says Cape May Brewing Company CEO and co-owner, Ryan Krill. “It’s extraordinarily gratifying that this recipe that began in my bathtub as one of my homebrews almost a decade ago got us our very first medal at GABF.”

In the 33rd edition of the GABF competition, 9,497 entries were submitted to the general competition, along with 113 Pro-Am and 70 Collaboration entries. The beer was made by 2,295 breweries from across the nation, with entries from all 50 states plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Judging took place over the course of three days, with an international panel of 322 judges from 18 countries.

“This year’s GABF competition was the largest and most competitive to date,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, Great American Beer Festival. “The beers and talent were as impressive as ever, and I’m thrilled to congratulate this year’s winners for their achievements in brewing.”

Honey Porter is a draft-only release from Cape May Brewing Company, currently unavailable packaged in cans. You can find one of their thousands of accounts near you by accessing their Beer Finder at, or by getting your growler filled at their location at 1288 Hornet Road in the Cape May Airport.

About Cape May Brewing Company:

Once upon a time, 20-something Ryan Krill earned a six-figure salary working in finance and real estate development in Manhattan, while his college roommate, Chris Henke, designed commercial satellites. During a summer weekend at the Jersey shore, they brewed a batch of beer with Ryan’s dad. “Should we open a brewery?” Ryan asked, only half-serious. But, by the following year, the three guys had secured a space at Cape May Airport where they concocted a makeshift brew system and honed their beer-making skills. In 2011, they started with one client. Today, there are hundreds of accounts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania proudly serving the guys’ award-winning recipes. And CMBC’s fearless leaders have never looked back.
