We spoke with Great Lakes Brewing Co. Brewmaster Mark Hunger about Vibacious Double IPA.
BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
All of Great Lakes’ production beers are ultimately a group effort. Our team did specifically focus on utilizing hops that we have not incorporated in past beers.
BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
The smoothness and drinkability, despite the beer being a robust 9% ABV!
BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
Vibacious is a portmanteau of “vibes” and “delicious.” The beer is a perfect accompaniment for any good time, and it sure is delicious!
BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
It’s definitely one of them. I would probably have several beers on a desert island!
BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Bold aroma, moderate bitterness, not overpowering and smooth.
BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
Since the beer just came out in March, the stories around it are just starting to be written (and there will be many!) For me, right now, the best story was to see this evolve over the 6+ renditions on our pilot system and see it get better and better with each brew.
BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Vibacious pairs well with BBQ chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, street tacos – any food that’s accompanying a good time spent with good friends.
