Mary Beth Skylis is a freelance writer based in Lakewood, Colorado, with a strong focus on travel, outdoor adventure, climbing, backpacking, and wellness. She began publishing professionally in 2015 after completing a thru-hike of the 2,200-mile Appalachian Trail, an experience that ignited her passion for adventure storytelling. Since then, she has explored the Colorado Trail, trekked through the Himalayas, navigated South American jungles, and descended the slot canyons of the American West.
Her writing has been featured in Backpacker Magazine—where she served as a columnist—as well as Outside, Climbing, REI, SELF, Women’s Health, Trail Runner, 5280, Blue Ridge Outdoors, Alaska Magazine, Insider, and more. She’s also contributed to Parkinson’s News Today and She Buys Travel, demonstrating a versatile voice that connects movement, wellness, and exploration. When she’s not writing, Mary Beth can usually be found deep in the Rocky Mountains with her two dogs, chasing new summits and story ideas. She received her B.A. in Spanish and English Literature from Aquinas College.
