Beer Review: Third Heaven Belgian IPA by Wild Heaven Beer

Beer Review: Third Heaven Belgian IPA by Wild Heaven Beer
Style: Belgian IPA
Availability: Year-Round
State: Georgia
Country: USA

Description

Hoppy, but not exactly like a normal American IPA. The Belgian yeast creates a more complex base of flavor. Our Third Heaven (a nod to our third location, which is in collaboration with Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q) gives notes of sauvignon blanc, white grapes and a bit of stone fruit – along with the earthy esters you expect from a Belgian beer. Non-IPA drinkers should definitely check this one out!

Third Heaven Belgian IPA by Wild Heaven Beer was judged as a Belgian IPA (category #21B, Specialty IPA) according to the 2021 BJCP Guidelines. The pour of this beer revealed a golden to amber hue with a bit of chill haze. There is good carbonation level for this beer and good head retention. Some redolent hop notes were detected in the aroma of this beer, and it had a nice balance of malt / hops with a malt sweetness in the background. The hop bitterness was nice, though it was a bit too light for an IPA. This needs a bit more bitterness and hoppiness for it to truly be “on style.” As it stands, it comes up just a little short of that. The body and mouthfeel of this beer is medium with a very good carbonation level. The overall impression is that it just needs a bit more hop profile to justify fitting into the IPA category. However, it does have a nice malt sweetness alongside a clean smoothness in the finish.
