Long Track IPA by Matanuska Brewing Co. was judged under Category 21A, American IPA, per the 2021 BJCP Style Guidelines.
Pine and resinous hop character lead the aroma, supported by light citrus notes. A low caramel malt presence provides balance. The aroma is clean overall, with hops at the forefront.
This beer is copper in color and mostly clear. It has a tall, off-white head with strong retention.
The flavor is hop-forward, with a spicy, almost rye-like character that adds an interesting layer of complexity. A medium-low caramel malt sweetness offers some support without competing with the hops. Fruity notes, particularly grapefruit, are present from both hops and esters. The finish is firmly bitter and lingers.
This beer has a medium body with a smooth, rounded texture. Carbonation is moderate and appropriate for the style.
Overall, this is a classic, hop-driven American IPA with a strong resinous backbone and a pronounced bitter finish. The spicy nuance adds distinction, while the malt remains restrained.
