Mango Lime Sour Ale by Uplsope Brewing Co. is a fruited sour ale and is being evaluated as a Wild Specialty Ale (category 28C in the 2021 BJCP Beer Style Guidelines). Wild Specialty Ales are beers that have been fermented with microbes other than typical brewer’s yeast and were brewed with specialty ingredients such a fruit or spices. Mango Lime Sour Ale is brewed with lime juice and dried mangos.
Mango Lime Sour Ale pours golden in color, shows a very light haze and has a medium off-white head. The aroma is moderate lime with light mango and a hint of malt. The flavor is lightly sour with moderate nutty malt, moderate lime and a hint of mango. The beer finishes moderately bitter with a light sourness with a moderate balance of nutty malt and lime.
Mango Lime Sour Ale is a pleasant beer primarily showcasing lime fruit with a little mango making an appearance in the aroma and flavor. The sourness is fairly low and the beer does not display any other wild “funkiness.”
