Hawley’s Comet

Hawley’s Comet by Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. is an America IPA that falls under BJCP 2021 category 21. IPA, A. American IPA.

This beer pours a deep gold approaching orange color with great clarity and a fluffy white head that clings to the glass. The aroma is hop-forward with fruity notes of grapefruit, sweet orange/lemon rind and tropical mango. Beyond the hops there is light grainy malt and hints of honey with some mild red apple esters. The flavor is similar and is full of citrusy hops – grapefruit, lemon – with pine undertones that lead in to a dry finish with a firm bitterness, but yet refrains from being pithy or astringent. The malt offers a light grainy backbone that, along with a clean yeast profile, lets the hops shine.

This was a really solid IPA that you’d be happy to have any day of the week. It reminded me more of an old-school IPA, but with some tropical flair to it.
