Bitburger Gluten-Reduced Lager Makes U.S. Debut in Philadelphia
Bitburger is bringing its new Gluten-Reduced Lager to the U.S., giving more beer drinkers a chance to enjoy its classic German taste. The new lager offers a crisp, balanced flavor at 5.1% ABV – while containing less than 20 parts per million of gluten. It is brewed with barley and uses a special enzyme during fermentation to reduce gluten levels.
In a press release, Bitburger announced that the Gluten-Reduced Lager will be available in 11.2oz cans via 6-packs and cases.
The crisp, refreshing lager – nearly identical in flavor to their Premium Pilsner – offers local beer lovers a flavorful, inclusive option for every celebration.
A thoughtful option foreveryone on the invite list, the new Gluten-Reduced release offers those with gluten sensitivities a sincere beer drinking experience worthy of its spot in every cooler, fridge, and hand this summer and beyond — whether making a splash at Philly’s famous block parties and backyard barbecues, closing out Labor Day, or stocking up for the holiday hosting season ahead.
At 5.1% ABV, Bitburger Gluten-Reduced Lager delivers a bright and sessionable beer. On the palette, the lager is finely malty, balanced and hoppy, and pleasantly full bodied. Gluten-reduced for broader drinkability, Bitburger’s Lager allows individuals with gluten intolerance to enjoy the authentic Bitburger taste.
“Consumers today are looking for more choices that fit their lifestyles without compromising on quality or flavor,” said Scott Baver, Bitburger USA. “With our new Gluten-Reduced Lager, we’re expanding the occasions and audiences for great German beer by offering a delicious option for people who often have limited choices in the beer category.”
Bitburger Gluten-Reduced Lager is brewed like traditional beer using barley. During fermentation, a special enzyme is added that breaks down gluten proteins, lowering the measurable gluten level. The finished beer is then tested to confirm gluten levels are below 20 parts per million (ppm).
Because the beer is brewed with barley, it is labeled gluten-reduced rather than gluten-free. While the beer tests below 20 ppm gluten, a common indicator of safe consumption for gluten sensitivities. Individuals with celiac disease or severe gluten sensitivity should consult their physician before consuming gluten-reduced beer.
Like all Bitburger beers, Bitburger Gluten-Reduced Lager is brewed at the Bitburger brewery in Bitburg, Germany, continuing more than two centuries of authentic German brewing tradition.
