City Star Brewing Brings Back Local Yokel, an All-Local American Pale Ale

City Star Brewing is bringing back a beer that celebrates its long-standing commitment to local ingredients and community. Local Yokel is an American Pale Ale brewed with Root Shoot Malting’s Genie Pale malt, marking a special anniversary for the Loveland craft maltster. The release also highlights how local sourcing has remained a key part of City Star’s beers and its relationships with Colorado farmers and producers.
In a press statement, City Star Brewing announced that Local Yokel is set to be released on Friday August 28th.
Local Yokel is an American Pale Ale brewed with 100% of Root Shoot Malting’s Genie Pale malt. This year Root Shoot Malting is celebrating 10 years operating as a craft malting company and 100 years as a 5th generation family farm.
City Star head brewer John Way first brewed Local Yokel 10 years ago when he wanted to brew a beer with 100% local ingredients. City Star was proudly the first craft brewery to purchase and brew with Root Shoot’s craft malt. Local Yokel rotated off the taps as City Star releases new beers every Friday. The brewery is bringing back this beer for Root Shoot’s special anniversary celebration.
The local concept behind the first round of Local Yokel was not lost. Today, City Star uses Root Shoot Malt as their base malt in nearly all their beers. Sourcing local lives on across their entire beer lineup as they have since shifted to also using yeast from Colorado based Inland Island, source hops from Colorado hop farms, and even grow their own hops in their beer garden for their annual release of Homegrown IPA.
Root Shoot Malting operates out of Loveland, CO as a craft malting company. Their efforts in regenerative farming and bringing community together align with City Star’s mission of sourcing local, supporting small and growing partnerships with neighbors.
